Backup and restore

Backup and restore

To save data and settings created in SmartRace GO Plus, data backups can be created under the menu item “Backup”. The following data will be backed up: Drivers, vehicles, tracks, entries in the race history and settings. Pictures are also part of the data backup. To create a new backup, open the “Backup” dialogue from the main menu and press the green button “Create new backup”. After the backup has been successfully created, it appears in the list of existing backups. From there, backups can be exported as a file (e.g. to Dropbox, Google Drive, for sending by e-mail/WhatsApp etc.).

Note: Depending on the number of images contained, backup files can become relatively large. It is therefore recommended to export the created backups, save them outside of SmartRace (e.g. in a Dropbox) and then delete the exported backup in SmartRace.

Backups are platform-independent. This means that a backup created on Android can also be used on iOS – and vice versa. However, restoring a backup works slightly differently on the two platforms and is explained below.

Restoring under iOS

On iOS, the exported .srgpbk file can simply be opened directly. Simply select the file on the iPad/iPhone in the file browser. In the subsequent dialogue, use the “Share” symbol and select the entry “Copy to SmartRace”. The backup will then be opened in SmartRace.

Restoring under Android

Under Android, the file can also be opened directly with SmartRace. However, the file must be on the device’s memory and cannot be opened directly from Dropbox/Google Drive etc. So it must first be transferred from there to the device. So it must first be moved/copied from there to the device memory. In Dropbox, for example, this can be done via the entry “export…” -> “save on device” when selecting the respective file. From there, the file can usually be opened directly with SmartRace. If this does not work, the file extension must be changed to “.txt”.

Note: It can happen that after successfully importing a backup and then reloading SmartRace, the dialogue shown in the screenshot is opened again, although the backup was indeed successfully imported. In this case, simply press the “Cancel” button.
